Summer Camp

June 20th - 25th

Camp Living Stones began in 1995 as a dream of two brothers, Jon and Eric Smeltzer. They shared their dream of an adventure camp designed to teach Christian principles with family and friends, and then began with faith to make this dream a reality.

The mission of Camp Living Stones is to strengthen tomorrow's leaders, encouraging them as individuals to mature socially, mentally, spiritually and physically.

The CLS Mission is built on the following beliefs:

  • All People are created and loved equally by God.
  • All have the need to develop as Christ developed socially, mentally, physically and spiritually. (Luke 2:52).
  • Experiencing God's creation in a challenging recreational setting creates a unique opportunity for youth to be RE-CREATED, to become the person God intends them to be.
  • A relationship with God requires a consistent daily commitment.

"As you come to Him, the living Stone-rejected by men but chosen by God and precious to Him-you also like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ." -1 Peter 2:4-5

Activities

CLS Tower
The tower is one of our most recently updated activities here at camp. One side of the 40' tower is a rock climbing wall with easy, intermediate, and hard routes. There is also an inverted box near the top of the wall for those seeking an additional challenge. The other side of the tower is a repelling wall. From the top, center portion of the tower runs a zip-line that cuts across a ravine and ends 400' from the tower.

Low-Ropes Course
This classic adventure course challenges groups to work together to reach a common goal. The course is divided into two sections with the first part including the “Tomahawk Walk,” “Trust Fall,” and “The Wall.” The second part of the low-ropes series includes team building activities called “Bob’s Spider Web,” “Plank Walk,” “Platform Swing,” “Rock Labyrinth,” “Grapevine,” and “Lean on Me.”

Spelunking Cave
Spelunking requires some old clothes and a great attitude as you will be sinking your feet into some serious mud, laughing good hearty laughs, and learning something while your at it. (You won’t come out clean though! )

Whitewater Rafting
CLS contracts out a white water rafting company: Sunburst Adventures for rides down the Ocoee River. This adventure is for our guests ages 12 and older. Please visit www.sunburstrafting.com for more information on the first commercial outfitter on the Ocoee.

 Funyaking
Unlike whitewater rafting, Funyak adventures are done on the Hiwassee River just south of Camp Living Stones and located in the Cherokee National Forest. CLS contracts out these trips from companies such as Hiwassee Outfitters, Inc with these trips being suitable for all ages. Please visit www.hiwasseeoutfitters.com for more information on Hiwassee Funyaking.

Mission/Work Projects
Almost every group that has graced our doors participates in this activity. Whether in the surrounding community or here at camp, the hands of students and adults have taken God's love, through their hard work, into the lives of many. Some projects have included repair on local houses, cabin/camp construction, moving disabled adults to new homes, building wheelchair ramps, yard work, plumbing, trail blazing, and so much more. Please bring your group and join us in this labor of love!
