I remember when Christmas seemed to take FOREVER to get here. Now, it comes and goes so quickly I feel like I am never ready for it. In fact, I often feel guilty when its over because I missed an opportunity to have a powerful worship experience.
This year, I have made a dedicated effort to not miss the Worship Experience called Christmas like I have in years past. I'm reading a cool book by Max Lucado. I'm planning a family devotion time that will amaze my kids. (I'm hopeful it will anyway) I'm even planning to get some time away, probably in a deer stand, to worship the birth of Christ in a personal way.
Unfortunately, during this process of planning and preparing, I've become a little restless. Why is it that we, as Christians, have to work so hard at recognizing Christmas as a personal moment of worship. All the other major religions don't seem to struggle as we do. Hindus. Muslims. Jews. Even Mormons. Yet, we as Christians, believe that Jesus is the ONLY WAY and the ONLY TRUTH and all of the other religions have it wrong. And in the midst of us declaring that our "Christmas" is the only true "Christmas" we have such a difficult time worship Him. This has me perplexed. Discouraged. Frustrated. And even a little Angry.
Why, when we have so MUCH to Celebrate, do we struggle so much to Celebrate it?
I read this verse today and it caught my attention regardig this subject.
Luke 2: 8 - 12 (The Message)
There were sheepherders camping in the neighborhood. They had set night watches over their sheep. Suddenly, God's angel stood among them and God's glory blazed around them. They were terrified. The angel said, "Don't be afraid. I'm here to announce a great and joyful event that is meant for everybody, worldwide: A Savior has just been born in David's town, a Savior who is Messiah and Master. This is what you're to look for: a baby wrapped in a blanket and lying in a manger."
Did you notice the words "Great" and "Joyful" in the verses. How about "an event meant for everybody, worldwide." Or , how about the best word in that verse (in my opinion anyway) . . . .A "Savior!!!!" This is the event called Christmas. A time for you and I, as Christians, to celebrate and worship the SAVIOR of the World. A GREAT and JOYFUL event meant for EVERYBODY, world wide. This excited me. It moved me. It brought me to my knees and caused me to worship him.
I personally can't wait for Christmas. And how about you, what will you do to worship Him this Christmas?
